What Drives Utilisation Here

San Diego loses almost none to outright closures, so the winter argument other markets use doesn't land here. The one that does is daylight. From November the useful practice window after work is simply gone, and rain and short winter daylight take most of what's left on weekends. A simulator restores weeknights. That's the whole value proposition in California, and it's why we see so much evening use in the data our customers share with us.

Worth saying plainly: a simulator is practice, not a replacement for Torrey Pines Golf Course. What it does is make sure the round you play there in April isn't the round where you rediscover your swing.

Altitude Calibration For San Diego

Elevation around San Diego is about 62 feet, so thin air isn't a factor in your gapping. Set the altitude field to 62 anyway. Two reasons. The default is not always sea level, and if you ever compare notes with a golfer practising at 5,000 feet, you'll want to know which of you is being flattered by the air.

Choosing a Layout for Your San Diego Space

The amenity build is its own category and San Diego hotels and clubs get it wrong by over specifying. A bay that a guest uses for forty minutes with no staff support needs to be idiot proof above all else. Simple interface, durable everything, remote monitoring so your team knows when something needs attention. Save the sophisticated setup for venues with staff who can run it. We've replaced several over complicated amenity bays in California with simpler ones that get used three times as much.

Industry warning. Sound is the complaint you'll get after opening, not before. Treat the room during the build. Retrofitting acoustic separation into a trading venue in San Diego County costs multiples of doing it upfront.

Specifying for Continuous Use

We commission commercial bays differently. Every unit gets calibrated, then stress tested with a range of swing speeds, then handed over with staff training and a written runbook covering daily open, daily close, and the three faults most likely to happen. Your team in San Diego should be able to resolve a stuck shot or a projector input problem without calling us. Everything else, we handle.

San Diego Simulator Questions

Can I use a golf simulator year round in San Diego?

It runs all year. The San Diego season stays open but gets wet and dark for months, and soaked mats plus no rollout make outdoor practice close to useless for gapping work. An indoor bay gives you dry, lit, repeatable conditions through November through February.

What altitude should I set my simulator to in San Diego?

Use 62 feet. Simulator software defaults to sea level, and San Diego sits well away from that, so the correction is worth making. Using the two percent per thousand feet rule of thumb, you're looking at about 0.1 percent more carry than a sea level baseline. We set this during commissioning and re-check it after software updates, because updates sometimes reset it.

How much space does each commercial bay need?

Plan for roughly the footprint of a large parking space per bay plus circulation, seating and service access. The number that catches San Diego operators out is circulation, not the bay itself. If staff cannot pass behind a swinging club safely with a tray, the layout fails on a busy night regardless of how the maths looked on paper.

How noisy is a simulator bay?

Ball impact carries further through a building than operators expect, and it is the most common complaint after opening. Multi bay rooms and any bay adjacent to dining need acoustic treatment designed in. Retrofitting sound separation into a trading San Diego venue costs several times what it costs during the build.

What ongoing maintenance should I budget for?

Treat screens, turf sections and projection as consumables with a replacement schedule. How fast they wear depends on your volume. We give you the intervals at quote stage and can hold spares, because the real cost of a worn screen is the revenue lost while a San Diego bay sits offline waiting for one.
