What A Proper Los Angeles Install Involves

Around Los Angeles the weather rarely stops golf outright. It just degrades it for months. rain and short winter daylight settle in through November through February and every session outdoors gets shorter, wetter and less useful. Meanwhile the numbers you need to actually fix something are unreadable in the rain. Indoors you get repeatable conditions and clean data. For most of the the West Coast golfers we work with, that's worth more than the handful of days weather truly cancels.

Worth saying plainly: a simulator is practice, not a replacement for Riviera Country Club. What it does is make sure the round you play there in April isn't the round where you rediscover your swing.

Altitude Calibration For Los Angeles

At roughly 305 feet, elevation isn't doing much to your ball flight in Los Angeles. That's genuinely useful. It means your simulator numbers should transfer to Riviera Country Club more or less straight across, and when they don't, you have a real problem to chase rather than an altitude offset hiding it. We set the environment field to 305 on handover and note it in your commissioning sheet.

Residential And Commercial Installs

We install into finished basements, unfinished basements, attached and detached garages, purpose built outbuildings, spare rooms and commercial venues around Los Angeles. The survey is identical every time and it takes six measurements: ceiling height at the lowest obstruction, width wall to wall at the hitting position, depth from the screen back past your swing, floor level corner to corner, every light source in the room, and what circuits reach the space. Those six decide the build.

If you have not chosen equipment yet, start with home golf simulators or the Los Angeles residential page instead, then come back for the install.

The bottom line for Los Angeles. Hire on the survey, not the quote. An installer who prices your room without seeing it is guessing, and the guess gets corrected on install day at your expense.

The Job, Step By Step

Commissioning is where our installs differ from most. Launch monitor calibration, altitude set to your actual elevation rather than the sea level default the software ships with, projector geometry checked against the screen, then a gapping session so you leave with your own carry numbers written down. That last step is the one most installers skip and it is the one that makes the room useful.

Los Angeles Simulator Questions

Can I use a golf simulator year round in Los Angeles?

It runs all year. The Los Angeles season stays open but gets wet and dark for months, and soaked mats plus no rollout make outdoor practice close to useless for gapping work. An indoor bay gives you dry, lit, repeatable conditions through November through February.

What altitude should I set my simulator to in Los Angeles?

Set it to 305 feet. That's the approximate elevation in Los Angeles, and it matters because thin air adds carry at roughly two percent per thousand feet, putting you near 0.6 percent above a sea level reference. Every simulator platform has an altitude or elevation field in its environment settings and most ship set to sea level. Leave it wrong and your gapping chart will be off across the whole bag.

Can you install a golf simulator in a basement with low ceilings?

Often yes, with the right specification. Below about nine feet we look at your actual swing arc rather than a chart, and we move to a side or floor mounted launch monitor because overhead units need height we do not have. A shortened driver setup or an iron and short game focused build makes plenty of low Los Angeles basements work well.

Do I need a permit to install a golf simulator?

The simulator itself is equipment rather than construction, so usually not. Associated work can be a different matter: new circuits, structural changes or a new outbuilding are typically permitted work, and requirements vary by municipality. Check with your local building department in Los Angeles early, and we will tell you which parts of the scope are likely to need it.

How long does a golf simulator installation take?

A straightforward residential bay in Los Angeles is usually one to two days on site once the room is ready. Rooms needing work first, such as a duct reroute, added circuits or floor levelling, add time before we arrive rather than during. Commercial installs run longer and are driven by structure, power and acoustic work.
