What A Proper San Diego Install Involves

Around San Diego the weather rarely stops golf outright. It just degrades it for months. rain and short winter daylight settle in through November through February and every session outdoors gets shorter, wetter and less useful. Meanwhile the numbers you need to actually fix something are unreadable in the rain. Indoors you get repeatable conditions and clean data. For most of the the West Coast golfers we work with, that's worth more than the handful of days weather truly cancels.

Local play shapes how we set these up. With Torrey Pines Golf Course, Balboa Park Golf Course, and Pebble Beach Golf Links nearby, we'll usually dial the software toward the shot shapes and club selections those layouts actually ask for.

Altitude Calibration For San Diego

Elevation around San Diego is about 62 feet, so thin air isn't a factor in your gapping. Set the altitude field to 62 anyway. Two reasons. The default is not always sea level, and if you ever compare notes with a golfer practising at 5,000 feet, you'll want to know which of you is being flattered by the air.

What We Install In San Diego

Whether the bay lands in a basement, a garage or a venue in San Diego, the install sequence is the same. Room preparation first, then framing and enclosure, then screen and tension, then turf over a proper subfloor, then projection and geometry, then the launch monitor, then calibration with you standing there. Skipping the last step is how people end up with a very expensive television.

If you have not chosen equipment yet, start with home golf simulators or the San Diego residential page instead, then come back for the install.

The bottom line for San Diego. Hire on the survey, not the quote. An installer who prices your room without seeing it is guessing, and the guess gets corrected on install day at your expense.

The Job, Step By Step

We quote installation itemised. The launch monitor and any room work are separate lines because those two move the number more than everything else combined, and you should be able to see them and decide. Everything else sits in a fairly narrow band. If your San Diego room needs a duct moved or a slab levelled, that is visible in the quote rather than buried, and you can take it on yourself if you have the trades.

Field note. Garage slabs fall toward the door for drainage, usually about a quarter inch per foot. Level the bay area with a subfloor or your readings drift in one direction and you will blame your swing for months.

San Diego Simulator Questions

Can I use a golf simulator year round in San Diego?

It runs all year. The San Diego season stays open but gets wet and dark for months, and soaked mats plus no rollout make outdoor practice close to useless for gapping work. An indoor bay gives you dry, lit, repeatable conditions through November through February.

What altitude should I set my simulator to in San Diego?

Use 62 feet. Simulator software defaults to sea level, and San Diego sits well away from that, so the correction is worth making. Using the two percent per thousand feet rule of thumb, you're looking at about 0.1 percent more carry than a sea level baseline. We set this during commissioning and re-check it after software updates, because updates sometimes reset it.

Do I need a permit to install a golf simulator?

The simulator itself is equipment rather than construction, so usually not. Associated work can be a different matter: new circuits, structural changes or a new outbuilding are typically permitted work, and requirements vary by municipality. Check with your local building department in San Diego early, and we will tell you which parts of the scope are likely to need it.

How much does golf simulator installation cost in San Diego?

It depends on two things: whether we are supplying the equipment as well as fitting it, and what the room needs before the bay goes in. Room preparation is the variable most quotes hide, so we itemise it separately. Send your San Diego dimensions and we will price your actual space rather than quote a range that changes the moment we see it.

Do you install commercial golf simulator bays?

Yes. Commercial work in San Diego adds structure and netting rated for public access, acoustic separation designed in during construction, an ADA accessible approach to at least one bay, commercial software licensing and integration with your booking system. We quote it separately from residential because it is a different job.
